29JE3756 PREMIER calves were a hot commodity at the recent Norse Star Summer Hummer Sale, hosted by the Fremstad family of Norse Star Jerseys and managed by Andrew and Jen Vander Meulen of Avonlea Genetics. The sale was held in Westby, WI, and 87 full lots averaged $5,280.
Some of the highest selling animals of the day were sired by PREMIER, an Impuls son of E-94% Jace Pix, that is a member of the ABS Primetime™ lineup.
ABS staff member Dan Bauer was in attendance for the sale. “It was exciting to see the early progeny of a bull with sky-high expectations such as PREMIER deliver on every level imaginable. The early PREMIER daughters represented in the sale not only lived up to the significant genomic buzz surrounding the bull with their extreme genomic values for Cheese Merit, Productive Life, and Daughter Pregnancy Rate, but just as important each “looked” the part and attracted enthusiastic bidding from the large crowd. At the end of the day it’s hard to argue any bull in the sale had made a more positive impact for consignors than PREMIER. If his performance thus far tells us anything, the PREMIER daughters that sold will continue to positively impact their new owners’ breeding programs for years to come!” stated Bauer, genetic management programs manager for ABS.
The four sale lots sired by PREMIER (lots 8, 12, 15 and 100) averaged a staggering $13,000. Lot 12, Norse Star PREMIER Taryn-ET, was the highest selling of the daughters and third high overall. Born 3/12, her 7/12 genomic evaluation indicated a GJPI of +209 and GPTAT of +1.1. Taryn is from a VG-88 Lennox dam and sold to River Valley Jerseys, IL.
The fourth high seller on the sale was Lot 15 at $14,500. Sunset Canyon PREMIER R Maid-ET was also a 3/12 daughter and sold with several AI contracts to River Valley Jerseys, IL. Maid is from the same family as popular ABS Primetime sire 29JE3735 MEDALIST.
The only other daughters from PREMIER also sold for outstanding prices. Lot 100, Norse Star PREMIER Kiniption, was struck off at $10,000. This 6/12 PREMIER daughter from one of the Fremstad’s popular show cows Norse Star Tequila Katie E-93% sold to Brandon Ferry of WI. Finally, PREMIER daughter Lot 8 contributed a final price of $9,500.
Dick Smith, ABS Jersey sire analyst, is excited about the outlook of PREMIER. “PREMIER was released in the April 2011 ABS Jersey Cornerstone Bull Book. A look at the July 2012 high GJPI heifers by sire shows that among the heifers born since February 1, 2012, PREMIER is by far the # 1 sire of high GJPI heifers. Month after month and herd after herd the PREMIER calves are the highlights of the monthly Genomic evaluation reports,” Smith commented.
Larry Schirm, ABS genetic marketing manager, is also excited about the future of this bull. “PREMIER had ‘made using genomically superior Primetime™ sires acceptable.’ Premier’s superior genomic level, his new, unique pedigree and his tremendous E-94%, third generation Excellent mother made PREMIER an instant household name in Jersey genetics. Now these early results on the first PREMIER offspring are paying back big dividends to his early users, and we hope to see continued payoffs for breeders using PREMIER genetics.”
PREMIER is currently a member of the ABS Primetime Elite lineup. He has a JUI of +4.23, DPR at +1.5, and adds +6.4 PL and +703 CM$. To add this PREMIER sire to your tank, contact your ABS representative today! View his complete proof information here!
